Betty BroderickChino, California, Jan 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Socialite Betty Broderick, who grabbed attention almost 20 years back for murdering her ex-husband and his wife, has been denied parole on Thursday. The former San Diego socialite was charged with second-degree murder and was sentenced to 32 years in imprisonment in 1991 for shooting her former husband and his wife in their bed. The woman has throughout emphasized that she was provoked to kill due to the bitter divorce that she had with her ex-husband as well as the ensuing custody battle for her children.

The decision to deny parole to the 62 year old woman was given out by Robert Doyle, the Board of Prison Terms Commissioner, who defended the decision by saying that Betty Broderick had not shown any signs of remorse for the heinous crime that she had committed. Moreover, Robert Doyle also emphasized that the woman was yet to evolve from the bitterness that propelled her to commit the crime and was still holding back her anger. Deputy Commissioner Carol Bentley also agreed with the decision and reiterated that it would not be a wise decision to release Betty Broderick as she might again commit murder.

The former socialite married much acclaimed attorney Daniel Broderick in 1969 and the couple had four children together. However, Daniel Broderick had an extramarital affair in 1980’s and he ultimately married the woman after deserting his wife Betty Broderick. This resulted in a divorce case that went on for four years and the socialite was lost the custody of her children to her philandering husband.

Betty Broderick’s story received widespread media attention and has also inspired books and movies.
