July 14, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The lower house of the parliament of France has recently given its approval to a ban on Islamic veils styled after the Burqa. This decision or rather approval is a part of intensive attempt that would duly safeguard the values of France.

The proponents and the supporters of the law condemn such veils, since it feels that it doesn’t go with the French ideal of the equality for the women. This bill is controversial outside France, but has gained a certain degree of popularity in France. The few candid critics declare that the conventional French president Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy has resorted to Xenophobia, in order to get votes from the ones who belong to the far-right.

Contemporary French society and the government support secularism and the Burqa clad women, they say are like a moving prison. There are Muslim women who don Burqa that envelops them completely. According to a Communist Party legislator, Mr. Andre Gerin, also suggested a study to be conducted by the committee in order to look and study legislations that can ban a Muslim woman to wear this dress in a public place.

The Burqa, as reported is quite rare in the whole of France; there are very less Muslim women who wear it in public. Gerin however begs to differ and says that there’s a large number of women wearing it both in the big cities and in some rural areas. He furthers adds that the silence of the French political leaders need to be broken.
