pamirKabul, May 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Pamir Airways aircraft crashed in Northern Afghanistan while it was heading for Kabul. Reportedly, the passenger plane was carrying 36 passengers along with the six other crew members. The passenger aircraft is one out of the regular flights which are scheduled by Pamir Airways for the major Afghan cities.

The plane crash was first reported by an Afghan military commander who heard an explosion while he was guarding the Salang Pass region. Although the exact position of the crashed aircraft remains unknown, NATO’s International Security Assistance Force has deployed their own team of officials to help search the civilian aircraft. Helicopters and planes have also been dispatched towards the last known position of the Pamir Aircraft.

Salang Pass is reported to be experiencing heavy rains along with severe cold and biting frost which is a major hindrance for the search party. The way the officials see it, the only way to figure out the crashed airplane is the helicopters of NATO. Afghanistan Airport Police Chief Mohammad Asif Jabar Khil told the media that the passenger aircraft was carrying 44 people as informed by the Pamir Airways Authority. Zemeri Bashary who happens to be the Interior Ministry Spokesperson said that the rescue troops have been deployed but the persisting bad weather in the mountains are posing blocks in the way of the search. Afghanistan’s Northern Kunduz state Police chief Abdul Razaq Yabyaqoubi along with Commander of the Salang Pass for the Afghan Ministry of Public Works, General Rajab were present along with the rescue troops who have been looking in the mountains for the crashed aircraft.
