Oscar Mayer Chairman Dies At 95

The world faces another blow as America’s meat industry tycoon, Oscar Mayer passed at the age of 95. The retired chairman of the Wisconsin based meat company, Oscar Mayer Foods, died at the Hospice Care in Fitchburg. Mayer’s wife, Geraldine, revealed in front of the media that Mayer had died of old age on Monday, 6th July 2009.
Oscar Mayer was the third member in his family that had begun the Oscar Mayer Foods company. According to reports it was one of the largest private employers in Madison. Mayer led the company till the age of 62, when he retired from his position of the chairman of the board in 1977. He retired soon after his company recorded its first 1 billion dollar mark.The company was then sold to General Food. Currently, it is a business unit of Kraft.
Oscar Mayer Foods traces back its history to as late as the early 20th century when German immigrant Oscar Ferdinand Mayer started working in the Detroit meat market. With the rise in the popularity of the meat market the business of the Mayer family also grew. According to official records, the company had 43 employees and provided the facility delivery through out Chicago. In fact, in 1906, Oscar Mayer became one of the first companies to adopt the new Food Safety Inspection Service.
The first thing that comes to one’s mind with the mention of Oscar Mayer is their world famous, Wiener mobile, which toured the whole of United States of America for more than 70 years. The very first Wiener mobile was developed in 1936 and since then more six of them have been created.

NEW YORK — Jack Nicholson said Thursday that he “warned” Mayer, the former Chairman.
The 70-year-old Oscar winner was dining at the Wolseley restaurant in London when a photographer told him about Mayer’s death.
After saying, “That’s awful,” Jack added “I warned him,” but refused to elaborate.
