a4s_haiti022410_109274cHaiti, Feb 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a recent development, Haiti passed over six orphans who were earlier seized by the Haiti police, to the US officials. The orphans were taken into police custody when they were about to board a plane. The news has been confirmed by a top official of Haiti. Jeanne Bernard Pierre, the chief of the Social welfare agency did not say if her agency sent the kids to US embassy or not. The handover of the orphans was a result of a meeting between Jean-Max Bellerive, the prime minister of Haiti and Kenneth Merten, the US ambassador. The kids are aged between 1 and 5 years. They were escorted by some women at the airport of Port-au-Prince in Haiti.

They were scheduled to reach Miami where their adoptive parents were just waiting for their arrival. The kids used to stay at Cap-Haitien orphanage set up by Jan Bonnema. They are supposed to reach Miami by plane on Thursday. The situation regarding the adoption of Haiti kids is quite stressful. The case of the 6 kids seized at Haiti airport makes one recall the incident of 10 Americans who were caught last month trying to take some kids out of the quake hit country.

However, the adoptive parents argue that the kids in the impoverished nation are left amidst poverty and hunger and adoption can do them good. There are various instances of poverty stricken Haitian families showing eagerness to give away their kids to foreigners for the hope they will lead a better life. However, the risk of child slavery and trafficking is there too.
