Oct 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the last few days, meteor shower have became quite a spectacle view in the night sky, which proves to be quite an enchanting experience for people viewing it. However, this phenomenon which is known as Orionid Meteor Shower is nothing new but it is seen every year around this time. This meteor shower appears on the earth’s atmosphere for an extended period of time in the month of October but is mostly visible between October 20-22. Even this year, the meteor shower has already provided quite a visual treat to people all over.
It is basically caused when the earth passes through an accumulation of ice and rocks which is left behind by the Halley’s Comet which passes through the earth after an interval of every 75-76 years. It is the only comet that is visible through naked eyes and it last visited the earth’s surface around 1986. On coming in contact with earth’s atmosphere, the ice and rock particles burn creating fireballs which are better known as shooting stars. The culmination of these shooting stars leads to the formation of the meteor shower.
Although, till now it has not been the year’s richest shower but the time between midnight and beginning of the dawn promises to be the opportune time to witness this incredible phenomenon. The Orionid Meteor shower will continue to showcase itself over the next few days and would surely contribute to fulfilling the feeling of curiosity about the universe among us and at the same time enable us to witness the spectacular images that the universe has to offer.
