PORTLAND, OREGON (BNO NEWS) – Oregon State Police (OSP) safely detained a fugitive from Washington after a car chase on Wednesday, local authorities said.

Charles Eugene Stalcup, age 38, from Goldendale, Washington was wanted on an outstanding Washington State felony warrant for violating probation on drug-related charges, and after a car chase on the eastbound freeway, OSP successfully detained him.

OSP Senior Trooper Elijah Preston attempted to stop a 2000 Buick LeSabre displaying Washington license plates on suspicion the driver was operating with a suspended license on the west end of The Dalles, but the driver failed to stop and attempted to elude the trooper and Wasco County deputies.

Stalcup drove his vehicle on the eastbound freeway lanes at speeds around 90 mph until another trooper deployed spike strips near milepost 86, successfully deflating the two left side tires. The wanted man pulled over shortly after and was taken into custody without further incident.

Stalcup was taken into the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility, and was charged as a fugitive from justice, with an out of state felony warrant, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, and reckless driving. He was additionally charged for driving with a suspended license.
