Sep 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of the original Navajo Code Talkers who transmitted thousands of messages without error to the American marines on the Japanese troop movements, Allen Dale June has died at the age of 91.

He was one of the only three of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers that were still alive. He died at the United States veteran’s hospital on Wednesday of natural causes.

June was hospitalized earlier this year with urinary track infection and kidney failure. According to his wife, Virginia June, Allen had the kidney failure because he wasn’t taking in enough water. June was hospitalized again two months ago, when he visited his family and he was transferred to Prescott from Flagstaff hospital. June was given round the clock care at the Flagstaff hospital.

June and hundred others served as Navajos Code Talkers. June and 28 others are credited with developing a code system that was based on their native language to send messages. The code helped determine the outcome of the war with Japan between 1942 to 1945. The army kept the role of the Code Talkers classified until it was declassified in 1968.

June was given a Congressional Gold Medal in 2001 along with the other members of the original Navajos Code Talkers. June attained the rank of Sergeant before he left the retired.

Thank you for fighting for our county and thank you for being a Native American. We should be proud of our heritage.
