SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — One person died on Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed on a road in Los Angeles County, California.

The crash happened at 4.17 p.m. local time in the city of San Gabriel, about 10 miles from Los Angeles.

Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), said one person was aboard the Beechcraft Bonanza A36 when it crashed under unknown circumstances. “The airplane caught fire and the only person on board was killed,” Gregor said.

The plane departed Brackett Field in La Verne and was headed to Van Nuys.

The 1977-build aircraft was registered to David E. Flotho from Grants Pass, Oregon, but it was not immediately clear if he was the person on board the plane.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were en route to the crash site on Saturday evening. Both agencies will investigate the cause of the crash.
