Oldest Survivor of Medal Of Honor John Finn Passes Away At 100

LA 194143.jpgSan Diego, May 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ex-Navy officer John Finn who had received the prestigious Medal of Honor back in the World War II passed away on Thursday at the Chula Vista Veterans Home of California. He was 100 years old which made him the oldest medal of honor recipient in the country. John Finn was awarded the medal of honor for his courage and bravery which he showed against the Japanese attack way back in Hawaii. Reportedly this is the very attack after which America was drawn into the second world war. John Finn was awarded the medal of honor on December 7, 1941. John Finn had been complaining about his health and as a result he was moved the Chula Vista facility for the veterans from his residential place at Live Oak Springs. John Finn leaves behind his son Joseph.

Way back in the second world war, John Finn took heavy head injuries but still never backed off for a moment no matter what the odds or the enemy. Instead he went ahead to take charge of the.50 caliber machine gun and kept firing bullets at the enemy who bombarded the military stations at Hawaii. It was three decades after his service with the military when he retired in the year of 1956.

Lt. Aaron Kakiel told the media that even after he took off from the army he remained a constant inspiration to all aspiring ordnance man. Following his retirement John Finn became a gunsmith. Rep. Duncan D. Hunter who happens to be an old pal of the departed navy officer said that John Finn shall remain immortal in the hearts of one and all in the American Army and shall continue to inspire people forever.
