Olathe, KS woman pleads guilty to identity theft

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS (BNO NEWS) – A woman of Olathe, Kansas, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to identity theft charges, Attorney Lanny Welch informed.

Marcella Diane Machado, 46, was indicted of one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft, one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of possessing a check stolen from a mailbox.

Machado and co-defendant Robert Maxwell conspired to defraud the First National bank of Olathe, First Legends Bank, Intrust Bank, Mid-America Bank and First State Bank & Trust of Perry, Kan., by stealing checks and using stolen identities to cash the checks.

Machado repeatedly tried to cash checks at various Kansas locations using stolen driver’s licenses. She is scheduled for sentencing on June 1. She faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison on the conspiracy count, a mandatory two years penalty for the identity theft charge, and a maximum imprisonment term of five years for the stolen mail count.

Machado’s co-conspirator, Maxwell, is currently awaiting trial.
