Oktoberfest Celebrations At Tempe Is On

oktoberfest-tempeOct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Oktoberfest celebrations began in Tempe on Friday and will continue till Sunday evening. The three day festival celebrated at Tempe Beach Park is full of beers of different varieties that has been brought in from at least seven different countries. The event lends Tempe a Bavarian look. The three day celebrations requires the help of about 3000 volunteers to make it a success. The event’s main attractions are polka and beer which the people freely indulge in. With 16 different beers available in the event the crowd do not need an excuse to loosen themselves up and drink non stop in the three day Oktoberfest.

The Oktoberfest celebrations in Tempe this year is said to draw a crowd of 200,000 people this weekend. The event is of great importance to the organizer, the Tempe Sister City Corporation which is a non profit organization. They offer a wide variety of foreign exchange programs for Tempe students and teachers. The entry in the event has been kept free with money coming in via food and beer tickets. The event started with a parade led by Tempe Sister City founders and diplomats and the students reportedly carried more than a 100 flags representing United Nations. The event is said to include a pizza which happens to be a brainchild of a four year old.

The festival happens to be of German Origin and will be marking its 200th anniversary this year in Germany. The first Oktoberfest was held on 12 Oct, 1810 as a public celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe- Hildburghausen. The celebration turned out to be a grand success and from then on it was celebrated every year.
