OKLAHOMA CITY (BNO NEWS) – A Tuttle, Oklahoma woman on Tuesday was sentenced to federal prison for defrauding the Oklahoma Department of Education’s Child and Adult Food Program out of $1.6 million, prosecutors said.

Mary L. Williams worked as President and CEO of Guardian Angel, LLC, a Tuttle company that the Oklahoma Department of Education designated as a sponsor and supervisor for the payment of federal funds to over 500 daycare providers across Oklahoma. Through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, the United States Department of Agriculture reimburses the State of Oklahoma for the cost of feeding under-privileged children.

Williams pled guilty to one count of theft of government property. She admitted that she fraudulently submitted falsely inflated claims for reimbursement in order to obtain money that she transferred to accounts that she and her family controlled. The investigation determined that she took $706,200, $826,200, and 96,200 during the 2006, 2007, and 2008 fiscal years respectively.

Williams was sentenced to 41 months in prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $1,670,600.

The sentence is the result of an investigation conducted by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Office of Inspector General.
