Oklahoma Experiences 4.5 Magnitude Earthquake

earthNorman, Oct 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The state of Oklahoma experienced an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale on Wednesday morning causing minor damages across the parts of the state. According to the United States Geological Survey, the tremor was fortunately not intense enough to trigger significant damages when it stuck around 9 in the morning. However, the intensity of the earthquake could be felt till as far as southern Kansas, reports have revealed.

Following the 4.5 magnitude earthquake, a statement was released by the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management that pointed out that it had got reports of few minor damages from parts of Oklahoma while there had been two instances of residents requiring medical attention after falling off when the earthquake stuck. Initially, the magnitude of the tremor was measured to be 4.5 in the Richter scale but officials of the U.S. Geological Survey later downgraded it to 4.3 while adding that the epicenter of the earthquake was around 5 miles in the eastern part of Norman and about 20 miles along the south-southeast direction of Oklahoma City. At the same time, the state’s emergency department confirmed that the tremor was felt in 19 counties across Oklahoma.

While talking to reporters about the earthquake, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett said people across the city called emergency officials saying that they felt the tremor. Mike Cornett also noted that the region experiencing an earthquake was somewhat unusual while adding that he had never felt a tremor earlier in this part of the state. However, the Oklahoma City Mayor assured the residents that there was no reason to panic as the earthquake has failed to trigger any significant damage.
