Washington DC, Jul 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Technology is the name of the game and now even naturally occurring entities such as hurricanes are being impacted by technology. The hurricane season has just started this year, and the United States is bracing itself for hurricane Alex.

NOAA to monitor the storms has released a new technology application. The Storm Tracker follows storms and monitors maps and satellite images. The tracker when placed on a computer, updates automatically without a user having to click the refresh button repeatedly.

However the users should update the links occasionally from the NOAA website. During the bumper hurricane season in 2005, millions of people in the United States logged onto the NOAA website. In 3 months in 2005 alone, the National Hurricane Centre and National Hurricane Centre had more than 2 billion visitors on their websites combined.

According to the retired Navy Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, PhD who is the undersecretary of commerce for Oceans and atmosphere, “NOAA Web sites have proven to be enormously popular with citizens in the United States and worldwide.” He added that “Saving life and protecting property is one of the primary missions of NOAA, and one way we communicate vital information is through our Web sites.”
