Feb 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Northern Michigan University authorities have said that the classes will resume on Thursday as usual after the campus was closed owing to a threat issued online. The public schools of the city were also shut down after the threat. The University authorities have said that FBI along with the other agencies have ruled out the possibility of any threat. The investigation found out that a similar blog post was directed at some other universities of USA. After the threat was found the university authorities sent notices to the students via cellphone and email fast. The evacuation was carried out at the office buildings as well.
Spokeswoman Kristi Evans said on the closure that the online threat was directed at faculty members, students and staffs of the university. She said “It didn’t identify any particular part of campus, so the university decided to close the whole campus for the day”. She did not reveal the details of the threat though. The threat did not mention any school but the school administration took no chances. As a matter of fact, Marquette Senior High School is very close to the university campus. The University Police said that there was nothing to worry by Wednesday afternoon but they still asked the students to stay in their rooms. The situation was declared to be normal soon.
Others were also asked to stay away from the campus. The 3000 students of the school adjacent to the university were rushed to their home fast. The parents of the students were initially worried but the school management made sure no one is left unattended.
