bildeIn an untoward incident, several buildings were seen to be set ablaze by a host of rioting prisoners at a central Ky prison on Saturday. According to the sources, the damage caused by the fire was so intense that the authorities were forced to relocate as many as 1,200 inmates elsewhere.

State police Lt. David Jude said that the firefighters were successful enough to extinguish the blazing flames that were ignited at the medium security North Point Training center which is located at a rural area, 30 miles south of Lexington. Transportation facilities were provided from 6 a.m. to relocate the prisoners, but it was still unsure that how many prisoners could be moved from the place that was set ablaze by a host of inmates.

Prison spokeswoman Mendolyn Cochran said earlier on Friday that there was a prison lock down since Tuesday, when one group of inmates allegedly assaulted two others. She added by saying that after the alleged altercation certain inmates began setting fires in trash cans.

Jude said that the prisoners housed at North Point were kept under a close watch in an outdoor courtyard which is been surrounded by a host of guards. “Everything seems to be at a calm. They are sitting down, kind of going with the program right now,” said Jude.

According to the sources, most of the food supply were lost as the kitchen and the canteen were amongst the buildings that were set ablaze by the rioting inmates. “There are several buildings at the front that are going to be a total loss,” Jude said.

Several inmates were diagnosed with minor injuries but reports suggest that no policeman or guards were hurt in the alleged incident.
