RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (BNO NEWS) – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has received a $9.3 million grant to improve the quality of the children’s health care, Governor Beverly Perdue announced on Tuesday.

The funding was awarded by the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA). North Carolina is one of the ten states benefited from the $100 million grant program.

The $9.3 million will be applied in the next five years and will be used to develop technology that tracks and measures the quality of care for the children.

“This will help pediatric offices throughout the state make better use of technology so we can be sure that children, those with special needs in particular, are receiving the care they need,” Governor Perdue said.

“This will be a great opportunity for us to truly implement medical home standards and to coordinate care for kids, especially the ones who have special needs. The focus now is on shifting to electronic patient records, and to integrate quality into practice, and this grant will help us move in that direction,” said Dr. Marian Earls, president of the N.C. Pediatric Society.
