Noam Chomsky Denied Entry By Israeli Official

chomskyJerusalem, May 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to reports, 81 year-old professor Noam Chomsky who is famous for his contribution in the field of linguistics and for his American left views, was denied entry into Israel. The professor, who was invited to give a lecture at Bir Zeit University of Palestine, was denied entry from the Israel occupied West Bank, Jordan. Reports claim that the Professor was denied entry on Sunday and that the inspectors on duty stamped on his passport “denied entry” without citing any particular reason as such for the denial.

Noam Chomsky is also a political activist and had many a times voiced his discontent over the issue of Israel. He had criticized in many occasions the Israeli occupation of the land of the Palestine. On Monday while many criticized the decision of the Israeli inspectors who denied entry to Noam Chomsky, the Israel’s interior ministry said that the country has not blacklisted the professor and mentioned that Noam Chomsky can yet get permission for entering the West Bank.

The Israeli Government spokesmen on Monday issued statements where they mentioned that the decision of not allowing Noam Chomsky was made by an interior Ministry official deployed at the Jordan West Bank and that the decision of the official in no way represents Israel’s policy as a whole. The spokesperson of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Regev said to media sources that the incident was just a mishap and that if the professor applied for the visa again he would succeed. On the past of Noam Chomsky, the linguist said that it was not the fault of a single person and that on Sunday while he was being interviewed by the interior ministry official, the latter was taking instruction from some other officials.
