No damage expected after 6.0 quake near the Northern Mariana Islands
March 8th, 2010 - 5:34 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )PAGAN, NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS (BNO NEWS) — A strong earthquake struck near the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands on Monday evening, seismologists said, but there was no potential for damage.
The earthquake happened at 7.47 p.m. local time and was centered about 103 miles (431 kilometers) northwest of Pagan Island, part of the Northern Mariana Islands. The quake struck about 267 miles (431 kilometers) deep, making it an extremely deep earthquake, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
Due to the location and the depth of the earthquake, there was no potential for damage from the earthquake. There was no tsunami potential either.
