Charla Nash chimp attack New Haven, Dec 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There have been reports that a Connecticut prosecutor does not plan to charge the owner of a chimpanzee Sandra Herold that mauled and blinded a woman Charla Nash very brutally in February.

The state’s Attorney David Cohen has refused to comment ahead of a news conference, which has been scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Nash’s family is suing Sandra Herold for $50 million and wants to sue the state for $150 million too.

It may be recalled that Charla Nash’s family had also filed a $50 million lawsuit against the chimp’s owner Sandra Herold. The $50-million lawsuit alleges that Sandra Herold “possessed a wild animal which she knew had exhibited aggressive behavior to one or more other persons and failed to take sufficient actions to safeguard third parties from the wild animal” and accuses her of in effect causing the brutal 12 minute attack that changed Charla Nash’s life forever, through her own negligence.

The attack happened in mid-February and has severely affected Charla Nash as now she is without her hands, nose, lips and sight. “I don’t ask a whole lot about my injuries… I know that I have my forehead,” she said. She now drinks her meals “with a straw through a small hole where her mouth used to be.” She had a large scar near the bottom of her face and a large piece of skin where her nose had been. The chimpanzee ripped off Nash’s hands, nose, lips and eyelids and she has been in hospital since.

The 200-pound chimp ravaged her body and even started eating her in the brutal 12-minute attack. And needless to say, this turned her life upside down completely. She lost her major limbs, is blind and drinks her meals through a straw.

I think the owner of the chimp should be sued along with the state. As they said, it had shown agressive behavior in past, and the owner was willing to take the risk, therefore she needs to pay for what “she” was responsible for. It’s same as if she had a child, and he damaged something of someone elses’ she as the responsible adult, in this case the owner is responsible! She carelessly kept a “wild dangerous animal” in her home. She now has to pay for the permanent, horrific damage to this poor woman. It sickens me that the state didn’t step in and have it removed!!!! This kind of thing can not be allowed to happen again - wild animals belong in the wild or cages in zoos - not as a “pet” like a cat or dog!!!!!!
