Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua Dies At 58

May 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On late Wednesday the Nigerian state TV announced the death of its President Umaru Yar’Adua. The 58-year-old President has been suffering from some health problem for some time now. The news of the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua was also confirmed by the information minister and the officials of the President’s office. He died at his Presidential residence. The Nigerian Government has announced that seven days of National mourning will be held and the body of the deceased President will be buried on Thursday.
President Umaru Yar’Adua was sworn as the President of Nigeria in 2007 and had worked hard to bring stability in the nation which suffers from an insurgency thereat at its oil-producing Nigeria delta and at the same time an internal conflict between the Christians and the Muslims. Late President Umaru Yar’Adua had been keeping ill since last November and had flown to many countries for treatment. His absence from the country for more than three months had given rise to concern for the politicians and also for the country in whole as it created what many called a power vacuum at the top position of the country. In February this year after his return to the country Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan was given the power by the President. On Wednesday, the officials mentioned reportedly that the Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan will be sworn as the President later on.
President of United States Barack Obama on Wednesday, after hearing the news of the death of the Nigerian President praised the latter by saying that he had worked hard to establish peace within the country and extended his prayers and sympathy for the people of the country which has suffered such a terrible loss.
