nick-schuylerJuly 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nick Schuyler recounted the horrific boat accident that killed three of his close friends in the latest episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The episode focused on the sheer strength of the human spirit and its endurance capability. This is also the first time that Nick Schuyler has opened up about the tragedy to the media. He became a hot search on the web after the episode was aired this week.

The four friends that included the NFL players Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper has set out on a 21-foot boat in late February last year. The trip that started out as a fun escapade soon turned into a nightmare as a storm from New Orleans glided into the Gulf. The boats anchor stuck and caused the boat to capsize. The four friends struggled to stay afloat and one by one became victims of hypothermia. Nick Schuyler recounted how they started to hallucinate and suffer from delirium as time passed. Nick Schuyler also lost his best friend Will Bleakley in the tragedy.

The rescuers found Nick Schuyler alone on the boat after 43 hours of the capsizing. He has emphasized that he does not want to be called a hero as he could not save any of his friends. He had so far refused all media attention about the matter and also asked his friends and family to keep away from the media glare. The audience got an account of the 43 agonizing hours during which Nick Schuyler endured extreme starvation, hallucination and dehydration till he was rescued by the authorities.
