Nicaraguan Diplomat Cesar Mercado found dead in his NY apartment

mayor1 Sep 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Investigators in the United States are still searching for suspects in what appears to be a homicide of a Nicaraguan diplomat. Cesar Mercado was found with his throat slashed at his New York apartment on Thursday. He was last seen alive on Wednesday.

Investigators say they found two knives near the murder scene and they suspect they were used for the murder of the Nicaraguan consul. Police say they found a 12-inch steak knife was found beside his bathroom sink and a second knife of 4-6 inches was found in the sink. The bathroom sink was filled with blood.

A driver who was scheduled to pick him up to the United Nations found his body. When the driver opened the unlocked door, he saw the body just inside the door of his apartment. He stepped out and called the police on 911.

Police say the 34-year had deep lacerations to his neck and stab on his abdomen. Police say they suspect a possible homicide. A resident at Mercado’s apartment said he heard unusual sound from Mercado’s residence on Wednesday night.

Officials from the Nicaraguan consulate in the United States expressed shock at the death of Mercado. World leaders have converged at the United Nations in New York for the UN General Assembly session.
