SEATTLE (BNO NEWS) – A Seattle man was sentenced Friday to eight and a half years in prison and five years of supervised release and hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution for conspiracy, fraud and ID theft.

Gabriel Jang, age 37, of Newcastle, Washington was the leader of a conspiracy that would frequent work-out facilities and fitness centers in Washington, Oregon and as far away as Georgia. They would break into the lockers of people using the gyms and steal credit cards.

Jang provided members of the conspiracy with portable computer equipment to quickly produce false identity documents, such as drivers licenses to purchase high-end electronics with the stolen credit cards.

He proceeded by fencing the stolen electronics over the internet auction website eBay. His PayPal account records indicate he received more than $3 million between April of 2001, and August of 2008.

Jang was also ordered to forfeit three houses purchased with the profits of his treachery as well as $116,527.00 in cash, and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen goods.

Billy Morris Britt, 37, of Renton, Washington was one of the co-conspirators and was sentenced in November 2009 to 61 months in prison, five years of supervised release and almost half a million dollars in restitution for his role.

Britt set up a Best Buy rewards account that eventually identified him and led to Gabriel Jang.

The scheme extended over five different states, victimized dozens of individuals and more than twenty banks.
