New York Times drops visitors but retains top news website ranking

Nielsen Online reports that monthly unique visits at the New York Times website, NYTime.com, dropped eight percent to 16.5 million visitors in April 2009 compared to the same month last year.

Despite this drop, which the paper disputes, the New York daily remains the number one newspaper website.

At the same time the number of unique visitors to the Wall Street Journal website, WSJ.com, soared 160 percent year-over-year to 12.3 million.
