July 17, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A couple from New York is suing the dog sitting agency ‘Doggie Love’ for neglecting to take proper care of their beloved pet. They had been shocked to find their French bulldog Percy lying motionless on the floor after they returned to their apartment. The dog sitters had been entrusted with the responsibility of keeping an eye on Percy when his owners Robert Hardon and Laura Garner left the bulldog for a night last year.

The lawsuit states that the employees of the dog sitting agency had apparently brought the dog back to the empty apartment. The overheated interiors of the vehicle was the cause of stress for the flat faced breed of dog. The curious onlookers of the apartment building offered to help by providing the pet with water and calling for medical attendants. However, the agency worker declined all help and drove away after dropping the animal off inside the vacant apartment.

The mental anguish and the loss felt by Percy’s death cannot be erased in anyway said the Banker couple. They have decided to sue the authorities of Doggie Love for an inordinately high amount of $1 million.

Nilo Mathais, the owner of Doggie Love, is said to have told the bereaved couple that dogs were known to just die sometimes. The dog sitting agency have gone public by stating that it hopes to clear its name once the decision on the case is made. The New York Post reported the statement of ‘Doggie Love’s lawyer too. The legal representative is said to have stated that no concrete conclusion will be able to be made without consulting the necropsy report first. However, he has hopes of the agency being able to convince the judge once it gets a chance to defend itself.
