February 15th, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, Feb 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Smartphone is taking literally everything technological.
A new smartphone application that was launched last Monday could tell you the nearest location that you can get a free condom in New York City. The application was launched by the New York City Health Department.
An assistant health commissioner for the city explained why the new app was necessary.
Dr. Monica Sweeney said that, “We want New York City to be the safest city in the world to have sex. A lot of people come here for that, so we want them to practice safer sex.”
iPhone and other Android based phones could be used to download the app. The application has a database that contains about thousand locations where free condoms are offered. Users have the option to use their GPS location to get the nearest location or they can enter their address and the application will list the locations where free condoms are available.
The city has been giving out an average of three million condoms every month in a bid to make sex safe in the city. The program has been running for 5 years now and has often come under criticisms. The programme is criticized for encouraging people including children and teenagers to have sex.
