Feb 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a recent development that has sent waves in the international weapon community, Russia has tested a new fighter aircraft recently. The fighter plane took its maiden flight on Friday. It has been made by famous planemaker Sukhoi. In its debut flight, the stealth aircraft flew for a duration of 47 minutes. This is being seen by many as a move by Russia to challenge old rival USA. It wants to break the superiority of the USA in air dominance as the experts feel. The fall of the Soviet Union a few years back put an end to the weapon and defense development in the country.
It was an event that made Vladimir Putin, the Prime minister of Russia proud. However, he said that the plane needs works before final release. However, the test flight was a step in the right direction according to him. The plane took its flight from Komsomolsk-on-Amur where a factory of Sukhoi is located. It is in Far East of Russia. Olga Kayukova, a spokesperson for Sukhoi said that the company was very happy after the test and the plane met the expectations. However, the affair was kept under wraps and care was taken to see that no foreign press or media person get to see the event. It was a deliberate move by the government.
The Prime minister of Russia further said that it is a supersonic plane with advanced stealth fighting mechanisms. It is Russia’s answer to USA’s much touted F22 Raptor fighter. However, it will be 2015 when the serial production of the plane would commence.
