Oct 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Man has been searching for a partner in space, a planet where life is there or would become possible in years to come and thus end our cosmic loneliness of being alone in the vast, unending and ever expanding universe. A new planet discovered after more than a decade of research known as Gliese 581g is said to have favorable conditions for supporting life. The new planet located in the Libra Constellation in a place often referred to as the Goldilocks zone appears to be what planet hunters have been searching for years. The planet reportedly has three times the mass of the earth and is said to be located in such a way that it is neither too hot nor very cold.
The presence of water - a necessity for the existence of life has not yet been confirmed on this newly discovered planet. The planet does not spin and so one side is in darkness and is cold while the other is hot but in between is the temperate region which is the most suitable for harboring life. Steven Vogt said that his own personal feeling is that there is a hundred percent chance of life on this planet.
The finding suggests that there must be more such Goldilocks planet in the galaxy that could support life. Though the new planet is close to earth, a journey to the planet at the current speed of rocket will take thousands of years to complete. Steven Vogt though said that future technology would enable humans to complete the said journey in approximately 200 years.
