New Orleans Still In The Rebuilding Process Five Years After Hurricane Katrina

methAug 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Its been five years since Hurricane Katrina ravaged across parts of United States gradually taking the shape of one of the most devastating natural calamities to hit the country ever. On Sunday, which is the five-year anniversary of the catastrophe, Americans across the nation especially in the city of New Orleans which was one of the worst effected area rekindle the memories of the disaster that had a resonating impacts on the lives of thousands of people.

Although its been years since Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc in New Orleans, some of the scars that have been left by the natural disaster are yet to heal. Cynthia Morrison is one of the victims effected by the hurricane after a home that she had bought in New Orleans just about a month before the natural calamity, was completed devastated owing to the catastrophe. However, like many others in the city, she returned to New Orleans to rebuild the city and since then has been playing a significant role in bringing the city back on its feet through Salvation Army which provide assistance to people with low income residents who are still attempting to rebuild their homes.

After Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 29, 2005, the states of Louisiana and Mississippi were the worst-effected with an estimated eighty per cent of the city of New Orleans being inundated with floodwater. The extensive storms as well as flooding claimed as many as 1,800 lives while millions of residents were rendered homeless in its aftermath. By far, Hurricane Katrina is the costliest natural calamity ever encountered by United States.
