New Orleans resident pleads guilty to federal gun and drug charges

NEW ORLEANS (BNO NEWS) – A New Orleans resident on Wednesday pleaded guilty in federal court to federal gun and drug charges, prosecutors said.

Jabar Gibson, 24, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute at least 5 grams of cocaine base, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, New Orleans Police Department Officers conducted a traffic stop in Algiers and Gibson was found attempting to hide a firearm under the front seat. Gibson was arrested and 5.4 grams of cocaine base or “crack” cocaine packaged for distribution was found hidden in his left shoe.

Gibson was previously convicted on two separate occasions in federal court for drug charges and was on federal supervised release at the time of his arrest.

He is facing a possible minimum of fifteen years and a possible maximum of life imprisonment, millions in fines, and at least eight years of supervised release.

The case is a result of an investigation by the New Orleans Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
