Boston, Jan 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new Leonardo Da Vinci painting has supposedly been unearthed. If it is so, it would be the first painting of the Renaissance man to be discovered since the last century. Post confirmation, a major clamor is bound to ensue for the acquisition of the painting, both from private collectors and the biggest museums from around the world. It is being speculated that the painting is likely to fetch billions of pounds, if it can be confirmed that it had indeed been made by the figurehead of the renaissance artists.
The painting, called “Young Girl In Profile In Renaissance Dress” is painted in chalk and ink, showing a beautiful young girl, the style of clothes and hair corresponding to the 15th century high society Milanese fashion. Experts believe that the portrait might be of the daughter of the extant Duke of Milan, Bianca Sforza. The portrait will be exhibited at Sweden next year.
What is surprising about the painting is that it had been in the private collections for a very long time. When it was sold at Christie’s back in 1998, it was simply tagged as belonging to the 19th century German school of paintings, called the ‘Young Girl In Profile In Renaissance Dress.” It remained in obscurity, until a forensic art expert found a fingerprint at the top corner of the portrait. He felt that the print was very much similar to one found in “St Jerome”, again by Leonardo Da Vinci. A close inspection, involving infrared analysis of the techniques and carbon dating has circumstantially established that the painting was indeed by the maestro.
