New Earthquake Strikes San Diego On Monday

earthquake-survivalSan Diego, Apr 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A number of aftershocks rocked the Mexico-Californian border region Monday after a massive earthquake jolted the area Sunday. The residents of the region are really scared and they are unwilling to return to their damaged homes. They are staying in parks and streets following the huge quake. The quake that hit the region on Sunday, measured 7.2 on the Richter scale. Two casualties took place and over 200 were injured in the quake on Sunday. The tremors were felt in faraway places like Los Angeles. The effect of the calamity was quite visible. Cracks formed on main roads and electrical poles were uprooted. The cracks also appeared on a lot of residential and commercial establishments and chances are there that they might collapse.

Mexicali saw a spurt in car accidents as the roads went dark. In some places power was restored on Monday but the cracked buildings forced the residents to stay out. The US geological survey said that the tremor and subsequent aftershocks indicate to the possibility of another large-scale quake. Felipe Caldern, the President of Mexico visited Mexicali, the capital of Baja California on Monday, and a new Earthquake hit the city at that time. He said that the governments will set up shelters for the victims of the quake.

The president also went to Mexicali general Hospital to visit the wounded persons affected by the quake. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, the governor of Baja California accompanied him when he was paying the visit. Some others ministers were also present at the venue. He also promised all types of support to the victims.
