stampJan 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The United States Postal Service releases a number of new stamps each year. These stamps are mainly commemorative ones, and depict some event or some person who have had a great impact on the society and its culture. This year too, a number of such stamps have been released at the beginning of the new year. Unfortunately, though, these stamps are only limited edition and are not available in huge numbers. They are put on sale for a while and are generally in huge demand.

This year, the United States Postal Service will be releasing stamps honoring the Negro League Baseball, that existed from 1920 to 1960. The stamps will be released sometime in June. Besides, there will be stamps in the memory of singer Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and actress Katherine Hepburn. Apart from the world of glitz and glamor, this new year, there will also be stamps in the honor of Mother Teresa, the author Bill Mauldlin, Tom Mix, William S. Hart and Winslow Homer. The list of stamps featuring the actors is called “Cowboys of the Silver Screen.”

Other than this, there are some symbolic stamps to be released this year too. For instance, the “Love Stamp”, that will feature a box full of purple pansies. The “Sunday Funnies” series would feature the eternal comic book favorites of Dennis the Menace, Calvin and Hobbes, Archie, Beetle Bailey and Garfield. These stamps will go on sale in July. On the other side, the traditional “Flags of Our Nation” will also be there, comprising the flags of Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina and New Mexico.
