New Cell Phone Ban In Oregon Likely To Cause Problems

Oregon, Jan 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new law has come into effect in Oregon. It states that motorists would not be allowed to talk or text on their cell phones while driving. However, the law does allow some exceptions to the rule, which means that the motorists would be able to find some way to go round the law. The law has stated that the motorists would be allowed to use their cellphones if they can prove that they are contacting their colleagues at work. In accordance to this, tow truck, delivery and taxi drivers would be exempted from the law.
However, it has not been clearly stated in the law as to which jobs would fall under the ban. According to the police Lt. Greg Hastings, the jobs that would remain unaffected by the law has not yet been specified, something that makes the law a rather shady one. Thus, so far, authorities are confused about whom they should pull up for violating the law, and which excuse should be valid.
In fact, the law, that had been brought into effect by the Oregon Legislature 2009, states that a motorist would be allowed to go despite violating the rule if he or she can prove that the motor vehicle is essential for his or her work. On the other hand, the police understand that the rule also opens up the possibility of a lot of loopholes, and that many people would attempt to bypass the guile by stating a false reason. Besides, the state police also feel that the ban is likely to meet with some challenges and protests from the public.
