Oct. 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The British industrial designer Sir James Dyson, best known for the invention of the dual cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner, has surprised and elated his customers with a brand new product: the bladeless fan. His other inventions are the Sea truck, the Balbarrow, the Trolleyball and the Wheelblade among others.
The bladeless electric fan, as it implies, has no blade. Apart from the unique bladeless design, there are other unique aspects of the fan too.
Every second, it pushes out 119 gallons of streamed non-turbulent air using airflow design. It’s airflow engineering consists in the forcing out of a jet of air from a thin circular slit. The air then passes over an aerofoil shaped blade. The fan draws air into the machine’s base at fifteen times the rate of the air that comes out of it. The process is called inducement and entrainment.
The bladeless fan provides a continuous flow of uninterrupted air, contrary to common fans, as the blades tend to provide uneven flow of air. The Dyson Air Multiplier runs on an energy effective brushless motor. It is also far easier to clean than the conventional fan, having no blades. It is also way more safer than the latter as it doesn’t pose the threat of entangling one’s long hair if one comes too close to it. Nor will an over-curious toddler cut his fingers while trying to check out the insides of the fan.
It’s a desktop fan, looking rather like a huge plastic hoop balanced on a metal cylinder. It comes in two sizes and will be available from October 15.
