KABUL (BNO NEWS) — A high-ranking Taliban leader was killed by Afghan-international forces during a firefight last week, NATO announced on Friday.

NATO said Mullah Zergay, a top Taliban commander for the Kandahar City area, was killed during a firefight in the Zharay district of Kandahar province last Saturday. “Officials have now confirmed Zergay’s death,” the NATO-led ISAF alliance said.

The alliance said Zergay’s death is considered to be a major loss for the Taliban leadership in southern Afghanistan.
