September 16th, 2010 - 5:41 pm ICT by BNO NewsKABUL (BNO NEWS) — An armed Afghan protester was killed on Thursday during a protest over the plan of a U.S. pastor to burn the Quran, a plan he later canceled, officials said.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said approximately 100 Afghan civilians were protesting in the vicinity of Forward Operating Base Mirwais in the Chorah district of Uruzgan province when the protest turned violent.
According to the force, protesters began throwing rocks at coalition forces guarding the base. One of the protesters, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, allegedly attempted to gain access to the base through a side gate and was shot by an ISAF service member.
“According to the initial report they were protesting over the alleged Quran-burning plan,” an ISAF spokesperson told BNO News. “ISAF is assessing the situation and will provide more details as they become available.”
