The alliance said the attack happened outside an ISAF base in Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan. It described the attack as an indirect fire attack, which is a military term that describes a mortar or rocket attack.
ISAF said several rounds struck a civilian house near the base, killing the child. Two women and two children were also injured in the attack, who were medically treated by ISAF personnel.
There was no damage to the base.
