Munich alcohol ban leads to train damage

Munich, Dec 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Munich police have announced investigation into the vandalism in the city’s rail system which resulted in damage worth 100,000 Euros. A new law which bans the public from drinking alcohol in public trains in the city came into force on Sunday. The protest which was coordinated on Facebook was carried out on the last day before the law came into force.

Drinking alcohol in all other forms of public transportation system is banned in Munich. The protesters say they registered their objection to the government’s restriction laws on the citizens. Several clips have been uploaded on the Internet and the Munich police say they will investigate the claims to get the ring leaders.

It is believed that around 2,000 people were involved in the protest. Officials say about 50 trains were damaged after the protest which was carried out on Saturday night. Police say most of the damages were limited to the interior of the train. In one instance, the operator of the train was forced to pull the emergency brake.

The protest was urged by activists who started the Facebook campaign “Farewell Drink.” The organizers plea for non-violence was clearly ignored by those who took part in the campaign.
