hope-4-haiti New York, Jan 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The noble endeavor by the stars for the Haiti Telethon, was a massive success, and a huge sum of money was raised for the earthquake survivors. There was a special edition of the show for Canada too, which was titled ‘Canada for Haiti’s’ and it also managed to raise over $9 million. Halfway through the show, the host George Stroumboulopoulos stopped the show, and announced that a caller had just given a donation of $100,000 for the Haiti survivors.

The $9 million will be given to nine non-profit groups like the Canadian Red Cross Society, Care Canada, Free the Children, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada, Save the Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada.

The American version of the show, Hope for Haiti telethon was also a massive success. Mary J. Blige rendered a soul-touching version of “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child.” Justin Timberlake sang a duet with Matt Morris and did a good job with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

The Pop Queen Madonna was no less. She sang ‘Like A Prayer’ and it was really appropriate for the situation. The Haiti-born Wyclef Jean performed the reggae hymn “Rivers of Babylon.”
