PORT-AU-PRINCE (BNO NEWS) — A moderate earthquake shook the Haiti capital on Thursday, more than a week after a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed more than 100,000 people there, seismologists said.
The earthquake, which struck about 31 miles west of Port-au-Prince, had a preliminary magnitude of 4.9, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). It struck about 6 miles deep, making it a shallow earthquake.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties following the earthquake, which struck around 11.45 a.m. local time.
Port-au-Prince and its surrounding area are still recovering from a 7.0-magnitude earthquake which struck more than a week ago, leaving large parts of the city destroyed and killing more than 100,000 people.
