Moderate earthquake shakes central Chile, no reports of damage
March 13th, 2010 - 3:31 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )SANTIAGO (BNO NEWS) — A moderate aftershock struck central Chile on early Saturday, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The earthquake struck at 12.15 a.m. local time and was widely felt in Concepcion and the country’s capital, Santiago, according to the Chilean Emergency Office. It said Santiago experienced slight shaking while strong shaking was felt in Concepcion.
The U.S. Geological Survey, however, said the earthquake had a 5.1-magnitude on the Richter scale - far less severe as initially reported by Chilean officials.
No tsunami warnings were issued and there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.
