Moderate earthquake shakes Alaska’s Andreanof Islands
March 9th, 2010 - 10:04 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )ATKA, ALASKA (BNO NEWS) — A moderate earthquake struck the Andreanof Islands, part of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, on Tuesday, seismologists said. There were no reports of damage or casualties.
The 5.6-magnitude earthquake happened at 4.06 a.m. local time about 49 miles southeast of Atka, a tiny city on the east side of Atka Island. It struck about 32 miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat following the earthquake.
