Moderate 5.7-magnitude earthquake shakes Puerto Rico
May 16th, 2010 - 3:42 pm ICT by BNO NewsSAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (BNO NEWS) — A moderate earthquake shook the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico on early Sunday morning, seismologists said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The 5.7-magnitude earthquake was centered about 4 miles (6 kilometers) east-northeast of Espino, or 63 miles (101 kilometers) west-northwest of the capital San Juan. It struck about 68.4 miles (110 kilometers) deep, making it a fairly deep earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially measured the strength of the earthquake as 5.8, but later revised it.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, and there was no threat of a tsunami.
