July 17, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A girl, believed to have been kidnapped as an infant was found to be hale and hearty after a long period of seven years. Amber Rose Nicklas was discovered by the police under a pile of clothes when they had gone up to the house with the objective of serving a court order. The suspicion of the authorities had been aroused after receiving a tip about the whereabouts of the missing child.

She was found to be in a good physical condition but had never attended school. She can, however, speak English as well as Romanian. She had last been seen in public when she was thirteen months old, in the company of three of her aunts. Two of them had been arrested while they were trying to flee with the baby girl but the third managed to get away with her stated the Sheriff’s spokesperson, Bill Evans.

She had been living all this time in Phoenix, Arizona while her foster parents stay in California. The authorities state that Amber has been sent back to Norwalk, California now.

The FBI, the missing person’s squad as well as the local Sheriff’s department were all involved in tracing the girl. The woman, occupying the house then tried to hide the child in the shower by concealing her under the clothings. She also tried to prove that the child had been adopted by her but was unable to substantiate her cause. Her name as well as her date of birth had been changed but the police were able to establish her identity by means of a DNA test.

Young Amber Nicklas is being kept under state custody at present. The prosecutors are expected to file the charges soon.
