Minneapolis, Mar 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The buildings belonging to the Minneapolis School District have been shut down after the cops reported of a shooting threat that was found in the Internet. Jesse Garcia, the Minneapolis Police Sgt reported that a threat was found in web where an unnamed person threatened to start firing followed by shooting at himself. This firing threat was posted in two social networking sites, according to the cops. However, the people who posted the threats did not specify the particular school. Hence, the administration chose to shut down all of the school buildings.
Jesse Garcia has made it clear that the cops are not dismissing the threat as a trivial issue. On the contrary, they are looking at it as a serious threat. The effort is on to track down those miscreants who posted the threats online. Emily Lowther, the District spokeswoman says that the school shutdown has affected almost 34,000 students. The parents of these students have been informed about the scenario. They will also be updated when the school buildings are reopened. As of now, it is not clear how long the closure will last.
After initial investigations, the cops have found that the threats that were posted on two social networking sites, may have had their sources in Australia. The incidents of sporadic shooting at several US universities and incidents of campus violence have made the government and education authorities jittery. The authorities do not want to take chances with schools either. The police are hoping that they will be able to find out the details about the people involved with this fiasco pretty soon.
