Mini-Stonehenge found
October 6th, 2009 - 9:16 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Researchers and archaeologists have made some discoveries around the Stone-hedge site. This discovery reflects the religious significance of the site, even in modern times.
According to reports, this smaller site ‘mini-Stonehenge’ is being called “Bluehenge” because of the color of the stones that were placed there thousands of years(around 2,500 BC) ago but have since disappeared. All that is left are the voids and the holes made where the stones were first located.
An artist’s renderation of the mini-Stonehenge and Bluehedge as it would have looked in the prehistoric times was released on Tuesday.
Researchers said that they believe the newly discovered stone circle and the larger Stonehenge circle may mark a “domain of the dead” that was linked to the “domain of the living” by the River Avon.
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 3.2 kilometers (2.0 mi) west of Amesbury and 13 kilometers (8.1 mi) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones and sits at the centre of the densest complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.
