Millivina Dean: The Last Titanic SurvivorMay 12th, 2009 - 5:24 pm ICT by GD
The 97 year old, Elizabeth Gladys “Millivina” Dean is last living survivor of the epic RMS Titanic. When the Titanic hit the ice-berg on April 15, 1912 she was just two months old and also the youngest passenger on board. At the time the ship was going down she was put on a lifeboat along with her brother and mother while her father went down with the ship like many others.
At 97 years of age, Millivina Dean, the last living survivor of the Titanic is at present in failing health and recently she also suffered from a broken hip. To be able to pay for the private medical care and nursing home, that is in Southampton, England, she had to sell some of her most prized Titanic belongings. Among the many memorabilia that she had to sell off one was the letter received by her mother from the Titanic relief Fund. Apart from the letter, there was also a suitcase which her mother received in New York, following the Titanic tragedy.
Presently, Millivina’s medical and health care averages to about $6, 0000 per month. Earlier in the month of May, 2009, Don Mullan a photographer with the newspaper originating in Northern Ireland has set up Millivina Fund to help her with the monthly expenses.
Don Mullan also got in touch with the director, James Cameroon and the two leading stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet of the film Titanic. Together, they donated $44,000 and promised to further support.
